Grant Activity:
Working Together to Secure Threatened Flora in NSW
Purpose:
The project will conduct threatened species citizen science events with local volunteers in SE NSW. Volunteers will assist in the collection of germplasm (seed and reproductive tissue) from five threatened plant species affected by the 2019/20 bushfires. The project will provide immediate protection against extinction for these species by collecting and storing reproductive material to facilitate the establishment of new and supplement existing populations. Volunteers will be trained in germplasm collection techniques. The project will also support and inspire local communities to participate in biodiversity conservation by providing science–based hands–on events that make a difference to regional biodiversity.
