Grant Activity:
Development of a photoreceptor regenerative therapy to treat blindness
Purpose:
Photoreceptors are the light-sensing cells in the retina, and their loss in many diseases leads to incurable blindness. Using human retinal stem cells, this project will identify a set of specific genes to stimulate cell reprogramming and regenerate photoreceptors. We will also test the feasibility of this regenerative approach in a rodent disease model. Our findings will allow us to develop a novel reprogramming therapy to stimulate retinal regeneration and restore vision in blinding patients.
