Building and Sustaining Indigenous Business in Latin American Resources...
In 2015, Australian society saw the launch of an innovative strength-based approach to delivering services and capacity development to indigenous communities i.e. indigenous professionals delivering to indigenous people (i2i).
The i2i Project aims to set a foundation for i2i Latin America, launched in 2017 in Santiago by i2i Development projects, to introduce and develop an innovative business model, founded in Australia, into Latin America focused on increasing the level of sustainable economic participation by indigenous communities impacted by resource company activities on their lands or adjoining lands, specifically in Chile and Peru.
The first component of the Project will be to induct the indigenous Mapuche owners of i2i Latin America. i2i Australia will deliver training and undertake field trips with the i2i Latin America team and its engagement with stakeholders including Sociedad Nacional de Minería, the Australian Embassy and Australian resources companies.
The second component involves the i2i Australian and Latin America teams travelling to Lima, Peru, to meet with Mining & Resources Business development staff in Austrade and undertake an extensive engagement with several mining companies, government officials, the Sociedad Nacional de Minería, Petróleo y Energía and field visitations to consult with some impacted indigenous Peruvian communities.
