The Care Plus study: multi-site implementation of early palliative care in routine practice to improve health outcomes and reduce hospital admissions or people with advanced cancer.
Purpose:
Unnecessary suffering and frequent hospitalisations despite preferring care at home is the experience of thousands of Australians. Early palliative care is a high value proposition – improving health outcomes for patients with advanced cancer, AND at lower cost with reduced hospitalisation. Yet early palliative care is not routinely available. This multi-site study will implement early palliative care in three cancer centres and assess the impact on acute hospital use at the end of life.
