Phosphatases in the pathogenesis of obesity and cancer
Purpose:
Obesity has reached epidemic proportions and is major driver of chronic human diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease and cancer. This proposal will define key molecular mechanisms contributing to the development of obesity and its co-morbidities, especially liver disease and cancer. We will thereon seek to develop novel therapeutic approaches for combating obesity and these insidious and recalcitrant diseases.
