Grant Program:
Bushfire Recovery for Species and Landscapes
Grant Activity:
Morialta threatened species habitat expansion
Purpose:
Morialta Conservation Park provides significant areas of high–quality Stringybark (Eucalyptus baxteri & Eucalyptus obliqua) and Eucalyptus fasciculosa & Eucalyptus leucoxylonover) heath habitat for several threatened species listed by the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. The park is within 10km of the 2019–20 Cudlee Creek fire scar, which burnt 20% of similar Mt Lofty Ranges habitat and is 200km from the Kangaroo Island bushfires, which burnt 60% of this habitat type. This project will increase the size of viable threatened species habitat by removing woody weeds and follow–up work in areas that have been cleared of weeds in recent years. It will also provide an extended area of habitat for refugees from the summer of 2019–20 bushfires.
