PBS Program Name:
DCCEEW 21/22 Supporting reliable, secure and affordable energy
Grant Program:
Powering Communities
Grant Activity:
Powering the Bonbeach Lighthouse Home with Solar
Purpose:
Electricity prices are one of the largest operational expenses faced by Lighthouse Foundation. With a social value return of 1:12 ($1 spent = $12 of value) the savings resulting from reduced electricity costs will contribute to our ground–breaking work. Furthermore, by protecting against the rising energy costs, the installation of solar panels will improve the sustainability of this property as a Lighthouse Home into the future. By increasing our capacity to generate electricity from the sun, we can also insulate Australia more broadly from price fluctuations in global energy markets, thus this initiative will boost Australia's energy independence. Additionally, this initiative will create jobs and help our local economy because the solar industry is a significant contributor to the Australian economy. Finally, this project will protect the environment by removing 354.6tonnes of CO2 that would otherwise have entered the atmosphere over the lifetime of the panels. This is the equivalent to planting 258 trees per year for 5 years; eliminating 4292 litres of petrol from being burnt every year for 5 years or avoiding 4877 kg use of coal every year for 5 years. The Plan Should Lighthouse Foundation be successful in this application for $7,300 under the Powering Communities Program, we will spend the grant funds to purchase and install solar as specified in the attached quote. We will commence the project after the date we receive the grant agreement and will complete all work by 30 June 2022. Lighthouse Foundation will submit reports in line with the grant agreement. The end of project report will include evidence of installation as specified in the grant agreement; identify the Clean Energy Council Accredited Installer, the product make and model and the number of units purchased.
