Grant Activity:
Defining the role of the host microbiome and transplantation
Purpose:
Infections are the single greatest cause of morbidity and mortality after transplantation. The microbiome presents a source of potential novel diagnostic and therapeutic potential. Relatively little is known about non-bacterial components of microbiome and how they interact with the relatively well characterised bacterial microbiome and the host. This research will evaluate the viral, bacterial and fungal microbiome in patients undergoing either liver or bone marrow transplant
