Integrating bacterial genomics into routine hospital care
Purpose:
To investigate the value and feasibility of a step-wise integration of in-house bacterial whole genome sequencing into a hospital clinical microbiology laboratory with respect to hospital infection control and surveillance and clinical management of patients. Impact will be assessed by process related outcomes (turn-around times) and clinical outcomes (detection of high risk clones and bacterial outbreaks, change to therapeutic management). Costs and savings of the intervention will be assessed.
