Grant Activity:
The influence of in-utero diabetes exposure on growth outcomes and cardio-metabolic risk in early childhood: follow-up of the PANDORA cohort
Purpose:
Type 2 diabetes is a major contributor to disability and death worldwide and is reaching epidemic proportions, particularly amongst Indigenous populations. Type 2 diabetes diagnosed in childhood follows a more severe course then in adults. Children born to mothers with diabetes in pregnancy have a higher risk for early onset obesity and diabetes. This project will examine the consequences of diabetes in pregnancy on growth and cardio-metabolic outcomes in Indigenous and non-Indigenous children.
