Purpose:
CCA runs an enrichment program for a group of young local adults who have identified as LGBTQA. The group regularly meet at The Shack - CCAs youth centre. The Shack has provided a safe space and provided a sense of belonging to this group who are
marginalised, isolated and discriminated because of their sexuality. It is a place where they feel they belong, can be themselves and thrive. Whilst the group consist of students and employees they are at the same time sons and daughters who need to find their tribe. The group is self sufficient and have taken control and ownership of the regular activities and programs that are currently part of the group work. Through a resilience and drumming program the group has learnt about respect for others and themselves, strength of character, team work, leadership and self confidence. In completing this they did attain a sense of achievement. Some of these young people are living on their own, trying to juggle part time work, study and finances. Every Tuesday, CCA feeds this group of young people, ensuring they have a healthy, hearty meal. We currently have an old fridge and freezer to store the food. However, it is old and not working efficiently. In doing this CCA will also conduct an energy audit to get a real picture of the current status and a plan with concrete steps to become energy efficient going into the future.
