Grant Activity:
Using twin studies to investigate epilepsy aetiology and antiepileptic drug-induced birth defects
Purpose:
By measuring and comparing the degree of similarity in a trait or disease between identical and non-identical twins, we can understand how much of the difference in a trait or disease between people is attributable to genes. This project will use twins to study the genetic contributions to epilepsy and to birth defects seen in babies born to mothers taking antiepileptic medications in pregnancy. The results will improve patient management and lead to the development of better treatments.
