New approaches for treatment of alcohol use disorder
Purpose:
Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a leading health problem in Australia with 5500 deaths annually. Current treatments are unsatisfactory and few people receive evidence based care. This Fellowship will develop better treatment and services to tackle this highly stigmatised disorder. I will conduct clinical trials of medications including as topiramate, oxytocin and cannabidiol. I will work to overcome barriers to receiving effective care, aiming to increase the number of people receiving treatment.
