Purpose:
The project will involve the purchase and installation of a solar system to power the building where our Healing House is located at Orient Point. The system will be installed by accredited tradespeople on the new roof that has recently been replaced by our organisation. Waminda has already invested in the upgrade of the building to improve its functionality and ensure it is fit for purpose. The building – Balaang Gunyah, houses a number of our programs, and offers a culturally safe space for women and their families to stay for short periods (respite accommodation), participate in group programs, including art based and narrative activities, receive case management services and access health, wellbeing and employment related supports. Balaang Gunyah is a unique place, situated on Country, that offers opportunities for Aboriginal women to come together, to share their stories, to build connections and to recreate culture together. It is particularly important for the Jerrinja community as it is located nearby, and has been fully embraced by women from that community.
