Early Career Fellowships
Grant Activity:
Prevention of blindness from diabetic retinopathy in under-served populations
Purpose:

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults. Early detection and treatment of DR can reduce blindness by 90 percent, but underserved populations with poor access to screening and eye care have disproportionately high rates of blindness. This study aims to implement and evaluate an innovative technology-based blindness prevention program for underserved populations. Providing early diagnosis will reduce rates of blindness from DR.
