Pseudomys Rescue and Rehabilitation (ERF-WRR2-008)
Expand two existing captive breeding programs for Pseudomys species – the Koonoom Smoky Mouse Pseudomys fumeus and New Holland Mouse Pseudomys novaehollandiae, and build on successful work previously achieved with reintroductions for these species. Activities include:
- Increasing the number of Koonoom Smoky Mouse reproduced annually for translocations and reintroductions into the wild
- provide a population of Koonoom Smoky Mouse for Moonlit Sanctuary to establish procedures unique to their facility, establishing a collaborative breeding program
- enable New Holland Mouse breeding for translocations and reintroductions
- provide a population of New Holland Mouse for Moonlit Sanctuary to establish procedures for their facility to establish a collaborative breeding program
- planning for the translocation/reintroduction of offspring for the two species bred over the 2021/22 summer breeding season.
