Bushfire Recovery for Species and Landscapes
Grant Activity:
Protect critical Alpine reptile habitatfrom vehicles in Victoria
Purpose:
This project seeks to protect the critical habitat of threatened Alpine reptiles especially the Alpine She–oak Skink (Cyclodomorphus praealtus) and the Alpine Bog Skink (Pseudemoia cryodroma) – by preventing unauthorized off–road driving in montane grassland and drainage line habitats at sites where these Alpine reptiles either occur or where suitable habitat is present in Victoria Southern Alps. This will be achieved by engaging suitable contractors to install natural rock and log barriers and bollards and/or fencing at off–track incursion points from existing roads and tracks. Parks Victoria will conduct ongoing photo monitoring to record habitat recovery behind the barriers.
