Purpose:
Under the Global Innovation Linkages program, two new lightweight tank container products will be developed for the European chemical transport market within the project. The products, known as Swap tank containers, will feature Omni Tanker's patented corrosion barrier technology which has already proved disruptive in similar markets. One of the Swap tank containers will feature a novel anti-surge system which will require a major innovative step. The anti-surge system will comprise a series of baffles to segment the tank interior, in order to control internal liquid sloshing motions associated with acceleration and deceleration. The baffles will either be moulded in shape or affixed in position. The process of manufacturing such baffles, and ensuring durability for the lifetime of the Swap tank container, poses a significant science and engineering challenge.
