Grant Activity:
Designing novel blood and MRI-based predictive tools to understand disease mechanisms, improve recovery and guide targeted interventions following neonatal arterial ischaemic stroke
Purpose:
Around 120 Australian babies suffer a stroke every year but causes are unknown. Almost half experience long-term problems such as cerebral palsy, speech, learning or behavioural difficulties. The study aims to answer the two most important questions that parents ask their doctors: why did my baby have a stroke and how will the stroke affect my baby’s future development? We will do this by looking at blood signatures and use advanced MRI imaging to study brain networks in 50 babies with stroke.
