Grant Activity:
Polygenic mitochondrial dysfunction in heart failure and neurodegeneration
Purpose:
Mitochondria are the energy producing components of our cells. Genetics influences mitochondrial function, which influences risk for diseases such as heart failure and neurodegeneration. We don’t yet fully understand this genetic influence, however we propose that subtle, cumulative genetic (polygenic) differences may be liable. We will test this idea using unique mouse models, and use these findings to identify readily detectable measures for developing heart failure and neurodegeneration.
