Presentation of contemporary Korean artists in APT11
Three contemporary artists from Korea and the Korean diaspora are invited to participate in the next iteration of QAGOMA’s flagship exhibition series: ‘The 11th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ (APT11), 30 November 2024 to 27 April 2025. In curatorial collaboration with Seoul Museum of Art, QAGOMA has invited influential sculptor Chung Seoyoung, multimedia artist Sung Hwan Kim and Koryoin diaspora artist Alexander Ugay. This application seeks funding toward the development and presentation of the artists’ work. Activities in the lead-up to APT11 include the commissioning and development of new work, site visits and community engagement activities in Southeast Queensland, participation in exhibition planning, preparation and installation, and dialogue with QAGOMA’s curatorial, learning and public engagement teams to inform contextualisation and interpretation of their work in publications and public events. The Gallery also requests support to bring artists to Brisbane for the opening weekend of APT11 and to develop a complementary suite of public programs. This will enable the artists to collaborate and engage in cultural exchange with their Australian and international peers, to develop and deepen person to person relationships with artists and institutions, and to introduce and contextualise Korean art for Australian audiences.
