Purpose:
Brisbane City Council will conduct a community feral cat management program on Moreton Island (Mulgumpin) that will directly benefit the long–term recovery of the Coastal Swamp Oak (Casuarina glauca) Forest of South–east Queensland and New South Wales Threatened Ecological Community, significant species including Eastern curlew (Numenius madagascariensis) and other migratory shorebird species and small ground–dwelling mammals found in sensitive wetland areas of Mulgumpin. This solution will aid bushfire recovery by decreasing the predation of native fauna species on the island. Bushfire Recovery for Wildlife and Habitat Community Grants support will be used to help Brisbane City Council complete monitoring, control programs, education and training sessions for community conservation groups, the Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC) in addition to any interested land managers to achieve lasting confidence and capacity to work towards the eradication of feral cats on Mulgumpin.
