Grant Activity:
Repurposing the Field Effect to understand epigenetic control of the microenvironment
Purpose:
The spread of breast cancer to other parts of the body (metastasis) is the most common cause of cancer-related death in women. Metastasis is brought about by the abnormal behaviour of a population of cells called fibroblasts. Building on key observations made in the mid-20th century, but that have remained relatively ignored till now, we plan to harness novel approaches to understand how cancers hijack fibroblasts to help their spread.
