Purpose:
Neisseria gonorrhoeae secretes numerous vesicles but their role in the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhoea has yet to be identified. This proposal is aimed at identifying how bacterial vesicles control immune cell function and how this contributes to the ability of N. gonorrhoeae to cause infections and pathology. This information will be important for the development of alternative treatment options to control the immune system and prevent inflammation.
