Grant Activity:
Understanding Toxoplasma’s interaction with the brain
Purpose:
Toxoplasmosis, caused by the parasite Toxoplasma, is an insidious disease that lays dormant in the human body. Latently infected individuals can re-develop acute symptoms upon immunosuppression and loose vision due to retinal damage. Toxoplasma infection is also associated with psychiatric and neurological disorders. Here we will determine how Toxoplasma remains latent in the by revealing how it manipulates host neurons, highlighting much needed avenues to clear chronic infection.
