Grant Activity:
Opening the black box - studies of the major histocompatibility complex class I immunopeptidome in allorecognition and transplant tolerance induction
Purpose:
Transplant patients require immunosuppression to prevent rejection; this carries serious side effects. Training the immune system to accept the transplant (tolerance) would improve outcomes. The recipient’s T cells recognise protein fragments (peptides) together with the donor’s transplant antigens. The project will identify these peptides, and the T cell receptors which bind them, and use this knowledge to monitor transplant immune responses and to improve strategies for tolerance induction.
