Building the mid-piece of the sperm tail
Purpose:
This grant will reveal the processes through which mitochondria are packaged into sperm. This is an essential process and defects are commonly the cause of human male infertility. The study will use state-of-the-art imaging methods, novel protocols and unique tools to define the normal process, then test how disrupting particular pathways alters function. The grant will generate data of fundamental importance to the understanding of fertility, and a common cause of infertility.
