Grant Activity:
Skeletal glucocorticoid signalling is required for high-fat diet-induced bone loss and obesity
Purpose:
High-fat diets lead to obesity, diabetes and bone loss. Our studies in mice indicate that these changes are due to increased glucocorticoid levels in the bone-forming cells (osteoblasts). Mice in which the function of glucocorticoids in osteoblasts is selectively blocked do not develop bone loss or obesity when they are fed a high fat diet. This project will examine how bone regulates body metabolism under high fat intake, and will explore ways that the negative effects might be prevented
