PRIORITY TRIAL - Preoperative exercise for patients undergoing major abdominal cancer surgery: A Multicentre Randomised controlled Trial
Purpose:
The only curative treatment for patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancer is to undergo extensive, highly complex surgical procedures which have very high complication rates. This randomised trial will test whether a structured, intensive preoperative exercise program can reduce postoperative complications, and will assess the cost effectiveness of this approach. If successful, this trial has the potential to significantly improve patient outcomes and reduce health care costs.
