Grant Program:
Global Science and Technology Diplomacy Fund
Grant Activity:
Real-time sensors for sustainable groundwater quality management
Purpose:
The declining groundwater quality in Australia and India due to high level of contaminants linked to human activities and climate changes is threatening essential water supplies for drinking, irrigation, and industrial purposes. The project aims to develop a low-cost, portable, and solar-powered optical sensing technology for on-line monitoring of inorganic and organic contaminants in groundwater. The innovative technology will significantly reduce the cost of water quality management. Capacity building and training for Australian and Indian researchers in the development and commercialisation of sensing technologies, together with the creation of new business opportunities are also outcomes of the project.
