Finding Biomarkers and Treatments for Vascular Dementia
Purpose:
Vascular dementia (VaD) occurs as a result of brain hypoperfusion and represents the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer's disease. Currently, no specific treatments for VaD exist due to incomplete understanding of the underlying pathophysiology. We are studying inflammasomes as a new therapeutic target to treat VaD. In the next 5 years, this project expects to discover translatable preclinical targets and therapies to treat VaD, and novel biomarkers to diagnosis VaD in humans.
