Purpose:
The University of the Sunshine Coasts (USC) will work collaboratively with Glasshouse Christian College Ltd, Caloundra City School Limited, The Corporation of the Trustees of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane, The Trustees of Edmund Rice Education Australia, The Institution of Engineers Australia and Kaea Pty Ltd to design and deliver the Crystallising STEM Careers project.
The Crystallising STEM Careers aims to prepare Year 4 10 students for the jobs of the future and enhancing their readiness to make informed education and career–related decisions about engaging in STEM subjects at school, future transition into tertiary studies and STEM careers.
The project will improve the quality of, and access to, locally based career guidance for students in Years 4 � 10 and their parents/carers via increased accessibility to STEM–focused career and technical education (CTE). The resources used in this project are research–informed and designed to motivate learners via real–life applications of STEM industry skills. The Year 4 � 7 lessons focus on the critical juncture between primary and secondary schooling. The Year 8 � 10 lessons and parent/carer workshops focus on socio–cultural factors contributing to adolescents gendered education and career exploration in STEM and informal learning environments and impact on interest in STEM Careers.
