Hooded Plover Protection Along the Bunurong Coast, San Remo to Waratah Bay
Purpose:
South Gippsland Landcare Network Inc (SGLN) in partnership with Bass Coast Landcare Network Inc (BCLN) intend to undertake comprehensive activities to protect Hooded Plovers along the Bunurong Coast from San Remo to Waratah Bay - over 8,386 hectares of coastline. The program will include fox control work, community education on conserving Hooded Plovers, Citizen Science program to increase bird and nest sightings, enhanced nest protection with volunteers from Friends of the Hooded Plover, Birdlife Australia and Landcare groups. Also trialling an innovative CSIRO bio-control method on sea spurge weed. This project will support the Networks' strategic plans to protect southern Gippsland biodiversity and link-in with Parks Victoria's work.
