Evaluation of a bush medicine-based treatment for scabies in Australian Aboriginal children
Purpose:
Scabies is a major public health problem in Indigenous Australian communities. Associated secondary bacterial infections can cause substantial morbidity and mortality, including that due to rheumatic heart disease. Existing treatments have limitations. This study investigates a simple bush medicine-based treatment containing tea tree oil for scabies in Aboriginal children. Following a pilot, the study will be conducted in partnership with the local community and health service in Katherine, NT.
