Long-term Outcomes of Surgery for Diseases of the Aortic Valve in Children
Purpose:
Over 2400 children in Australia are born with a heart defect annually. Up to 7% will have an abnormal aortic heart valve and need open-heart surgery in order to survive. Although surgery is often successful, affected children will need multiple heart operations throughout their life and face heart complications and premature death. This study will investigate the long-term outcomes of aortic valve surgery in children and aim to identify strategies to minimise complications and maximise survival.
