Purpose:
The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife will be undertaking the Banking on the Future project to ensure seed availability for the vital restoration work, which forms the basis for all bushfire recovery. The project will work with East Gippsland communities to build their capacity to identify, collect, store, and then propagate seed from their local surroundings. Key to the project is the identification and long–term storage of those indigenous, rare and threatened species critical for continuing Australia's only remaining alpine to the coastal forest. By the projects end, at least ten communities will have increased capacity for seed collection, storage, and propagation. At least two seedbanks will be established, and one community–managed nursery will be growing the seed.
