Purpose:
This study aims to
1) use a sheep model of acute hypovolaemic shock to determine whether novel perfusion fluids are suitable alternatives to red blood cell (RBC) transfusion for delivering oxygen to vital tissues; and
2) determine whether measures of microvascular blood flow and tissue oxygenation are superior patient-relevant outcome measures compared to haemoglobin levels.
