Grant Activity:
Eurobodalla Koala Recovery Project
Purpose:
The project encourages revival of the local koala population, integrated with an inter-regional breeding metapopulation. It enhances knowledge of home ranges and connectivity corridors across private properties, State Forests and National Parks in a landscape that had visible koalas at prime locations until the mid-20th Century but now only has rare sightings. A thermal drone survey searches for remaining koalas and maps residency and movement patterns, matched to topographic, vegetation and other habitat factors. Plantings of high use NSW South Coast koala tree species are strategically placed to make home ranges and connectivity corridors resilient in the face of climate change and urban development pressures.
