Grant Activity:
Engineering of novel insulin analogues for improved management of diabetes
Purpose:
Diabetes is a major global health condition affecting nearly 0.5 billion people. Insulin is an essential treatment for Type 1 and, increasingly, Type 2 diabetes. However, it is difficult to both manufacture and handle as it aggregates rapidly in solution making storage and accurate dosing difficult. We will develop novel modified insulins that are biologically active, long-acting, aggregate-free and which self-respond to increases in glucose levels therefore greatly improving diabetes therapy.
