Grant Activity:
Metabolic and molecular protection against mtDNA mutations
Purpose:
Mitochondria are powerhouses of the cell. Their assembly and function are encoded by a small mitochondrial genome. Mutations in the mitochondrial genome can cause devastating metabolic disorders and have been linked to many common age-related diseases. This project will reveal how cells invoke protective measures to overcome these mutations, thus revealing new mechanisms that can be exploited to combat mitochondria-associated disease.
