Grant Activity:
Mechanisms of regulatory T cell function
Purpose:
Normal regulation of the immune system is vital to human health, especially after bone marrow transplantation, but we still do yet not know exactly how it is achieved. In this project we will study one of the most important molecules used to regulate immune responses, CTLA-4. We aim to show that secreted CTLA-4, rather than CTLA-4 on the surface of immune cells, is responsible for immune regulation. Secreted CTLA-4 may hold promise as a new therapy for graft-versus host disease after transplant.
