Purpose:
The project will encourage and facilitate re–use and recycling through the establishment of a monthly volunteer–led Repair Cafe providing free repair of household items including electrical appliances, textiles, computers and bikes. Sessions will be accompanied by hands–on activities/ workshops that build the community s skills and knowledge in the repair, reuse and recycling of products. The project will divert repairable items from landfill and e–waste collection centres reducing the volume of hard waste entering the waste stream; reduce carbon emissions through avoiding the need to replace items that are repairable and can be kept in service; and increase community skills, knowledge and participation in repair, re–use and recycling.
