Purpose:
The Peel Better program aims to strengthen and restore psychological health of participants in order to help them better seek and maintain employment. Utilising evidence–based practice, the program will assist participants in the Peel region to develop confidence, reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms, and increase overall well–being.
It is anticipated that there will be two workshops, one for youth aged under 25 and one for older individuals 45 years old and older. Each workshop aims to have 10 participants each with a gender mix. The key activities will include individual and group therapies that focus on building self–image, self–confidence and self–esteem to unlock employability capacity and gain confidence to re–enter the workforce. Additional activities will include guest speakers to discuss mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy, goal setting, and image management.
The participants will visit local businesses to see how they operate and have the opportunity to ask questions and network with employees. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to visit a local Opportunity Shop to source suitable attire for an interview. WA Mums Cottage has items of clothing suitable for this purpose, and others can be sourced from local businesses.
