Purpose:
Bricklaying and Construction Pathways for Young Refugee/Migrant Jobseekers. This project brings a collaboration of major home and infrastructure developers with a community led business in the region to address the twin issues of high unemployment rates/social disengagement and skills shortages in construction. The two employer partners Lend Lease and Simonds Homes as well as the RTO Builders Academy Australia connected with Kowanj Australia, a refugee/migrant led employment services business, to combine their expertise in addressing the unemployment problem for young refugee migrants in the region. 25 young people will be identified through jobactives, local community organisations and connections and word of mouth and taken through Kowanj's customised pre employment and pre training – all provided through a cultural lens and sensitivity – and upon successful completion of the accredited training, placed with either of the partner employers.
