Purpose:
There is an untapped market opportunity for Australia to add value to plant-based proteins currently being sold as commodities. There is no industrial scale production of high-value proteins from plant-based ingredients in Australia. Protein ingredients must be imported, with food manufacturers beholden to international suppliers, price fluctuations and supply chain interruptions. The collective knowledge of the partners is unparalleled in Australia. CRC-P support of the research collaboration will enable scaled up protein production to solve this industry problem. Crucially, the project will develop the investment case for Australias only sovereign plant-based protein ingredient production facility at commercial scale.
