Establishing a Trilateral Australia-China-Pacific Research Network and...
This project aims to establish an informal trilateral Australia-China research network on the Pacific, which will draw together leading experts from universities/research institutes in Australia, China and the Pacific Island Countries. Its first workshop will be convened at ANU and a network directory will be produced. As the Pacific region is of great importance to Australia and China has substantially increased its presence in the region, how to understand China's activities in the region and engage with China has strong policy relevance for the Australian government.
This trilateral research network will be the first of its kind globally and will work to increase Australia's understanding of China in the Pacific. In preparation for the establishment of this network, the project will conduct a thorough investigation of current research about Oceania in Chinese universities and research institutions. This research component will be mainly funded by project partners in China.
