A novel therapeutic beam shaping device to advance Magnetic Resonance Image guided cancer radiotherapy
Purpose:
The next generation of cancer radiotherapy systems will enable very high quality imaging of patients during radiation treatment. A challenge is that current equipment must be redesigned to work in the magnetic field of the imaging system. This research will develop a compatible system for shaping the radiation beam to target the tumour. This will allow the potential of the new technology to be realised – imaging and targeting the tumour accurately while reducing dose to normal tissues.
