New Holland Mouse and Other Pseudomys Recovery and Restoration...
The Grantee will undertake the following:
- Expand the New Holland Mouse Pseudomys novaehollandiae Population Viability Assessment modelling to include Smoky Mouse P. fumeus
- Establish long-term genetically broad studbooked captive populations of New Holland Mouse and the Smoky Mouse for insurance reasons, and for ongoing release into suitably restored and protected habitats.
- Expand the facilities to include both species by establishing a Pseudomys Breeding Complex.
- Collaborate with a range of stakeholders, but particularly with Priam Psittaculture Centre in Bungendore NSW, to jointly manage metapopulations of both species across two jurisdictions – NSW and Victoria.
The intended outcome is to manage genetically and demographically viable captive populations of both species.
