Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Collaboration with Xiamen Philharmonic...
The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra (XPO) are expanding strategic cooperative relations following the success of the TSO’s 2016-2017 China Tour and subsequent hosting of the XPO’s performance in Tasmania’s 2017 Ten Days on the Island festival. Nicholas Heyward, TSO Managing Director, will lead an executive mission to Xiamen in November 2018 to establish an MOU framework for player exchanges, student artistic development programs, administrative learning opportunities, and other artistic collaborations between the two orchestras and their respective regional artistic and educational partners.
The mission will finalise a co-commissioning agreement for an orchestral work by a contemporary Chinese or Australian composer to receive its premier performances utilising the same soloist during the 2020 season. Peter Fang, XPO President, will lead an XPO delegation to Hobart in January 2019 to launch the relationship with the Australian Conducting Academy, accompanying the first Chinese guests/observers of the program.
