Grant Activity:
New ways to treat fatty liver disease: a focus on lipid metabolism
Purpose:
Individuals with obesity have increased risk of developing other metabolic diseases including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and diabetes. This is partially due to impairments in the capacity to burn fat and excessive accumulation of fat in most tissues of the body. We have identified a new pathway by which cells of the body regulate fat breakdown. In this project, we aim to test whether activating this pathway is effective in slowing the development of fatty liver and diabetes.
